Witness to Hunger and the Center for Hunger Free Communities is hosting their first annual conference in Philadelphia May 2-4. This is a unique conference that also includes the Witness to Hunger group who has lived or is living in food insecurity. Together we hope to create an action plan to carry out that will have an impact on hunger.

They are social entrepreneurs who are helping to create more local food security. every time youpurchase a healthy bowl ( or cup) of soup at the Soupervan, one is created by you aat the local soup kitchen. Fareground Opened April 29 in Beacon, New York!!

Congratulations to Margot and Kara who opened Fareground today as a ‘pop up cafe’ in Beacon, NY. Fareground is a ‘ pay what you can’ community cafe that will feed all regardless of their means. The menu included soft corn tortillas, herbed rice, chicken, pulled pork, guacamole, cole slaw, mango salsa, brownies, lemonade and I am sure a few other good things I have forgotten! Jan Orchard, a local visionary in Johnstown , Tennessee came with her team; son and minister Brian, co-worker Michelle and restaurant owner Beverly to FARM Cafe to meet with Renee Boughman (ex director of FARM Cafe) and Denise Cerreta ( founder, One World Everybody Eats Foundation).

There is a community cafe in the planning stages and many ideas were exchanged today. We look forward to working together in the future to help make Compass Cafe a reality!!

Denise and Renee Boughman were asked to participate on a panel discussion led by professor Chris Osmond for the series Building Common Ground. The evening started by watching the documentary film, Food Stamped and then a lively discussion about food security and the upcoming FARM Cafe ( a ‘pay what you can’ community cafe) that will be opening this month in Boone,NC.
